In-service Training & Community Education

The majority of unpaid caregivers become caregivers due to necessity and not necessarily by choice. Unpaid caregivers are typically an adult family member (daughter, daughter-in-law) who also have the added responsibilities of working full-time and caring for a spouse and children or an elderly spouse who is also facing health issues. In general, caregivers are untrained, are unprepared for their new role, and do not know where to go for help. This can lead to caregiver burnout and added stresses to the caregiver’s life.

Often times, the senior’s ability to successfully maintain their independence depends on the physical and mental well-being of their caregiver(s).

We host inservice training to staff and other caregivers that address health issues (i.e. understanding diabetes, dementia vs. Alzheimers, proper lifting and transferring techniques, caring for the caregiver, stress management) and safety issues (i.e. recognizing and reporting elder abuse, fall prevention).

We also offer community educational opportunities where members of the community can learn about issues important to the aging community. These include: how to research and apply for community services (i.e. CalFresh, Meals-on-Wheels); changes in Medicare/MedCal benefits; financial planning, etc.

At Central Valley Senior Services we provide services and information that:

  • Empower seniors and their caregivers to easily access the information they need to make informed decisions about their future;
  • Promote self-sufficiency and independence;
  • Enable seniors and their caregivers to be active and supported in their communities;
  • Enable seniors and their caregivers to be healthy (mentally, emotionally, and physically).
